Whilst a hidey house isn’t a specific need for guinea pigs, having somewhere in their cage that they can feel safe and secure is, and hidey houses fit that need and look super cute while doing it!
How many hideys should my guinea pig have?
As hideys are likely somewhere your piggies will want to sleep, ideally their cage should have one per piggy. Having extra for swapping in while cleaning is also a good idea.
How do I clean a guinea pig hidey?
Our fleece guinea pig hideys are a dream to clean, simply remove the pee pad and pop them in the wash on a low setting! If you want to keep the pee pad separate from the rest of your washing, try our Eat, Wheek, Poop, Repeat washing bag. We do not recommend tumble drying our hidey homes.
Do hidey houses have a base?
All our hidey houses are fitted with a pee pad base which helps keep the hidey dry and cosy for our piggy pals. The pee pads can be removed and washed separately to keep things fresh! We recommend our piggy safe Don’t Furry pet safe laundry detergent for floof friendly washing.
Where should I place the hidey in the cage?
Hidey homes are somewhere to help your piggies feel safe, so placing them somewhere like a quiet corner of the cage, away from anything too loud or stimulating is the perfect spot.
Why does a guinea pig hide?
Hiding is a natural instinct that helps guinea pigs stay safe. In the wild, Guinea Pigs are vulnerable to predators, so hiding is an important survival skill that helps them stay out of sight. Guinea pigs also like to hide away when they’re looking for warmth, comfort, or just fancy some quiet time alone. If your piggy is consistently hiding and not engaging with their other toys or cage buddies, it may indicate a health problem, so it is always best to speak to a vet if you’re worried.
